Arewa youths commend Enugu Governor over action on Fulani herdsmen

Youths from the 19 Northern states and Abuja under the auspices of the Arewa Youth Forum (AYF) on Thursday in Kaduna commended the Governor of Enugu State Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi over his handling of the recent herdsmen controversy in his state.

The youths disclosed that the actions and utterances of the governor shows that he is a true leader committed to the oneness of the country.


It would be recalled that following reports of the expulsion of herdsmen from his state, Governor Ugwuanyi had immediately visited the community concerned in company of security chiefs in the state and the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association to disperse such notion that nothing of such took place.

The governor said what transpired was just the movement of herders from Cross River state, through Ebonyi state for the purpose of grazing and the purported video was not true.

He therefore charge those peddling false rumors about Enugu state to note that the state is peaceful and should desist henceforth.

Consequently, a statement by the Arewa youths urged other South East Governors to emulate the accommodating Spirit of the Enugu governor and work towards bringing the country together as one.

The statement signed by the National President of AYF, Alhaji Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu also pointed out that they are aware of those working against the governor because of his patriotic disposition and warned them to retrace their steps or be reported to the security operatives for appropriate action.

Part of the statement said, “The Arewa Youth Forum is happy with the disposition of the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for taking prompt action to disperse the notion that herdsmen has been expelled from the state.

“By personally going to the affected community to see things for himself shows that he is a leader with a large heart and magnanimous to all residents of the state.

” We implore other South – East Governors and other Nigerians to emulate His Excellency by being accommodating and receptive to all Nigerians in their midst. For those trying to paint him in bad light, AYF urges them to desist as we will not fold our hands and watch.”.
